A RESOLUTION COMMENDING COACH DOYLE WOLVERTON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COACHING CAREER.

WHEREAS, Coach Doyle Wolverton, a native of Union, Mississippi, just completed his twenty-fifth year as the varsity girls basketball coach at Leake Academy; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Union High School, Coach Wolverton attended East Central Junior College and earned a bachelor's of science degree in athletic administration and coaching from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Coach Wolverton's Rebelettes have a 24-year record of 707 wins and 132 losses and his 1998-1999 team posted a perfect 46-0 record for the season; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Coach Wolverton has won four State Overall Championships, seven State 2A Championships, one State 3A Championship, one South 2A Championship, two South 3A Championships, two North 2A Championships, 15 District Championships and two Sub-district Championships; and

WHEREAS, Coach Wolverton also holds an impressive record with the junior high girls basketball team over a 24-year period, winning 359 games and losing only 44, which includes 12 District Championships; and

WHEREAS, the 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 junior high girls team had perfect 21-0 seasons, the most wins ever in the history of Leake Academy junior high basketball; and

WHEREAS, Coach Wolverton has brought additional honor to Leake Academy for being voted "Coach of the Year" 14 times during his career; and

WHEREAS, Coach Wolverton has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, the former Linda S. Horn, and their son, Drew; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and pay tribute to such outstanding coaches as Coach Wolverton, whose remarkable career has touched the lives of many athletes over the past 25 years:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Coach Doyle Wolverton for his outstanding coaching career at Leake Academy and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Doyle Wolverton and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
